The Eiffel Tower is named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose organization designed and constructed the tower. He also designed the framework of another popular monument – the Statue of Liberty. An interesting fact about the tower is that Eiffel engraved 72 names of French scientists, mathematicians and engineers on this tower to accredit their contributions.
Visitors can take the stairs or elevator up to the three levels of observation decks and restaurants in the tower for great views of Paris. The two restaurants in the tower are Le 58 Tour Eiffel and Le Jules Verne. The Eiffel Tower is a world famous landmark that can be seen from all around Paris.

One of the lifts goes up to the second floor from the ground floor. Two sets of Duo-lifts connect the second floor to the top. There are five more lifts in the tower, one on each pillar and one private lift that leads to the “Jules Verne” restaurant.
There are three levels in this iron lattice tower for public visits. The third level observatory’s upper platform is at a height of 279.11 m (915.7 ft). You have to climb 300 steps to reach from ground level to the first level. To reach the second level, you have to climb 300 steps from the first level. The third and the highest levels also have stairs, but the public can only access these levels by lift.

A race to the third floor of the Eiffel Tower will be held for the first time in the history of the Tower on 20 March 2015. 61 runners, of which 41 are elite athletes, have been invited to race each other to the third floor observation deck. Races, where competitors need to race to the top of a monument, are gaining popularity and are called ‘vertical races’. These races have been held at Eiffel Tower in the 1900s- but participants then, would run only to the second floor. This is the first time that competitors will run all the 1665 steps to the top. The event, aptly named La Vertical de la Tour Eiffel, will kick off the Eco Trail de Paris- a weekend of running marathons at various venues across the city. Among the runners is Napoléon Woo, who owns the Wok n’ Roll Restaurant in Quebec City.
